Much like prospective graduate students must take the Graduate Reference Exam (GRE) as part of the application process, a law school candidate must take the Law School Admission Test (LSAT) in order to be considered for admission. This assessment is not to be confused with the Bar Examination required here in San Francisco--a necessary step taken upon graduation in order to be able to practice legally within the state. Though some schools, such as Alliant University, offer admission with special status for those who have work experience in lieu of certain academic requirements, taking the LSAT is not a requirement that can be waived. The test itself is very involved, as it serves as a an alternative measure to the traditional GPA and personal statement often required for admission into many schools. It usually takes a half a day, and may be retaken no more than three times over the course of two consecutive years. There are four multiple choice sections, an unscored writing section, and an experimental section (also unscored) used to test questions that may be used in future exams. The LSAT is meant to test analytical reasoning, logical reasoning, and reading comprehension. The writing section, though unscored, is submitted to the college being applied to along with the scores, and thus serves a similar purpose as the personal statement. The administrator of the exam, the Law School Admission Council, highly recommends ample preparation prior to test day. In many cases, this might mean months to a year prior to taking the exam. This is where an LSAT tutor at tutorspree can be of added assistance. Feel free to get in contact with one that best suits your needs.
