For Parents and Students
Is Tutorspree a typical tutoring agency?
Nope! Tutorspree aggregates tutors from all over your area and lets you deal with them directly. We cut out the middleman, and the fees associated with them.
What kind of tutors are on Tutorspree?
The best around! We look at every tutor that applies to the site to make sure that they meet our bar. We've got professors, teachers, PhDs, and Phi Beta Kappas. Have a look, we promise you won't be dissapointed.
Do you screen your tutors?
Yes. Tutorspree runs an internal screen on all of our tutors. A third party background check by Backgroundchecks.com can be purchased for $9.99. If you would like to run one, please let us know at students@tutorspree.com
How much does Tutorspree cost?
The hourly rate that your tutor charges. There are no other fees.
How do I know how good your tutors are?
Don't take our word for it, hear what the Tutorspree community has to say! In depth profiles, feedback from parents and students, and peer reviews help you make an informed decision. And you can always contact the tutor before booking a lesson.
Why is feedback important?
At the end of the day, a tutor's experience can only tell you so much. You want to know what other parents and students thought about a tutor - not what we tell you about the tutor. That's why feedback is woven right into everything we do. We want you to have all the information you want. If there's something you don't see that you want? Let us know at feedback@tutorspree.com.
How do I sign up?
Head over to our sign up page, and hop through the steps, or, just signup when you send your first message. Your profile will never be visible, except to tutors you are interacting with. Keeping your privacy secure is one of our fundamental principles.
Why do tutors' rates differ?
Hourly rates are determined by our tutors and not by Tutorspree.
How do I book a lesson?
You can schedule a lesson by contacting your tutor through the site. When a tutor confirms the time and place of the lesson reminders are automatically sent to both parties.
What if a tutor fails to respond to a request?
The majority of our tutors respond to inquiries quickly. Please let us know if you have trouble getting in touch with your tutor and we will help move along the process as quickly as possible.
Should I assume a lesson is booked if I haven't received a confirmation email?
No. A confirmation email is required to ensure that a lesson has been scheduled.
Is payment required prior to meeting with a tutor?
No. We collect your credit card info before you book a lesson but don't charge you unil after we confirm that that lesson has been completed. Tutorspree acts as a secure third party to ensure that your money is never taken unless a lesson has successfully occurred.
How do I make a payment?
Select a tutor, enter your billing information through your secure Tutorspree account, and then wait for lesson confirmation. It's that simple. Your credit card will not be charged until after the lesson takes place. Follow-up lessons can be booked the same way.
Why do I have to add a credit card before I can speak to a tutor over the phone?
This policy helps protect tutors from false inquiries and speeds up the booking process. All credit card information is encrypted and held by our credit card processor (the best there is) for added security. Charges will only occur once a lesson has finished.
Will I ever have to pay the tutor directly?
No, we'll take care of all payments, so you'll never have to run to the ATM or make out a check at the last minute.
For Tutors
Why should I offer my services on Tutorspree?
Tutorspree helps educators supplement their income by providing a network of students in need of high quality tutoring. Tutorspree markets your skills and helps you build a customer base so you can focus on what you do best: teaching.
Can anyone sign up to be a tutor?
No. At Tutorspree we believe that while anyone can refer to themselves as a tutor, only the best should. So we review every tutor who applies to the site, and only let the best of the best through.
How much does it cost to list myself as a tutor?
It's free for tutors to create a profile and list their services on Tutorspree. Tutorspree only takes a commission when a lesson is booked.
Who determines a tutor's hourly rate?
You do! Unlike a traditional tutoring agency that sets a tutor's hourly rate and keeps the vast majority of the transaction, tutors determine their own hourly rates on Tutorspree and keep the majority of their billable hour.
How much should I charge?
Whatever you feel your experience is worth. Tutorspree provides tutors guidance based on average rates in their area for comparable tutors, but you decide your own rate. If you have any questions about what to charge, let us know.
How much commission does Tutorspree take from the tutor?
Tutorspree takes a 50% commission from the first lesson taught to a new student and a small flat fee for follow up lessons ($5 per lesson). As of August 18, 2011 we will be changing our commission structure. From then on, we will be taking 50% of the first hour of your first lesson and 12% on all time booked following that first hour. So if your first lesson is three hours, and you then have a follow up of one hour, you'll keep 50% of the first hour, and then 88% of the next 3 hours.
How does payment work?
All lesson payments must be made through Tutorspree. Tutorspree acts as a secure third-party for all transactions. Tutors are not permitted to accept cash from a parent or student. Payments are directed into a tutor's bank account shortly after a lesson is completed.
Creating Tutor Profiles
What is a tutor profile?
A profile is a tutor's personal advertisement to the Tutorspree community. It lists a tutor's educational background, teaching experience, along with a personal statement, feedback, and peer recommendations. Parents and students contact and schedule lessons via a tutor's personal profile.
How do I create a profile?
Click here and follow the step by step directions.
Why is my profile not showing up on Tutorspree?
All profiles must be reviewed by a member of the Tutorspree team before it goes live on the site. If you have any questions about where your profile stands, feel free to email us at tutors@tutorspree.com .
