Singing
Singing is the process of creating music with our voice by using rhythm and tonality. It can be done with the accompaniment of musical instruments, other vocalists, or even on its own. Singing is one of the oldest methods of creating music and has been a method for humans to express thought, record stories and provide entertainment for each other.
Singing involves four processes in order to produce sound. You have to start out by inhaling/ taking a breath. Next, the sound must be initiated in the larynx. Resonation occurs when the vocal resonators receiver the sound and influence it. It is then articulated in the recognizable sounds and noises. These four processes all almost always merged into one single unified action.
Although singing can come naturally to some people, singing is a technique that requires highly developed muscle reflexes. One can improve their singing through daily practice and vocal exercises. Vocal exercises can warm up the vocal cords, extend range, and help you acquire and master singing techniques such as staccato.
According to many experts, there is a proper singer posture that can maximize singing potential of an individual. Proper posture allows the singer to execute the physical processes involved in producing sound and gives the singer more self assurance while performing. The ideal posture for singing includes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Singing):
- Feet slightly apart
- Legs straight but knees unlocked
- Hips facing straight forward
- Spine aligned
- Abdomen flat
- Chest comfortably forward
- Shoulders down and back
- Head facing straight forward
