Jobs at Tutorspree
Tutorspree is located in New York, NY. We'd prefer candidates that are in the NYC area, but we will definitely consider hiring remote workers if they're really good.
Engineering Lead
We're taking on the tutoring industry - a very large ($5-7B US and counting) very inefficient (craigslist, ads on telephone poles, etc.) market - with transparent, feedback driven, market dynamics. TechCrunch called us the "Airbnb" of tutoring, The Next Web thinks we're onto something huge, and the New York Post and Business Week both like what we're working on.
We just finished Y Combinator, got funding from some of the best investors in the world (East and West), and moved back to NYC. Now, we're looking for engineering lead.
The code we write and the features we build are direct outgrowths of the things that cause our students and tutors pain. We push those features frequently, and we want you to help us figure out how to build all the things we still haven't figured out - we need a partner on the product, not just a code monkey. Very little of what we do is siloed - messaging systems connect to booking calendars which connect to feedback loops and ranking algorithms - so you'll need to consider all the different downstream dependencies.
If you're interested, drop us a line at jobs@tutorspree.com. We're not much for cover letters, but we would like links to what you've done in the past and code samples.
Responsibilities:
• Partner with our CTO to build Tutorspree technology
• Work with us to build our engineering team and scale our site to hundreds of thousands of views per month.
Requirements:
• Expertise in PHP and MySQL
• Ability to work in areas outside of your usual comfort zone and get things done quickly
Desirable:
• Familiarity with Git
• Familiarity with AWS/EC2
• Experience with MySQL in a production environment
• Experience with APC and memcached
Benefits:
• Generous equity package
• Competitive salary
• Healthcare
• Gym membership
