I'm a man of many passions. I grew up in Houston, Texas, where I frequently indulged in barbecued brisket and Tex-Mex. I attended the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts for both choral and violin performance, and I also plays viola, piano and guitar. I am also an avid film enthusiast.
I do not consider myself devoted to one particular teaching approach. Different students have different backgrounds and different needs, and I pride myself in being able to adjust my teaching methods to any particular student. I am also extremely friendly and empathetic, and I try as much as possible to let the student know that I understand his or her difficulties and am devoted to working through them.

While at Kaplan, I tutored and taught both the GMAT and the SAT, and I gained valuable experience learning how to relate to various ages of students. This experience continued as a tutor for Ivy Consulting in Manhattan, for which I tutored the SAT, ACT, SSAT, ISEE, GRE, and general academic tutoring for all subjects, including math and science, and all ages.
I have also taught online GMAT classes for Knewton, a burgeoning startup devoted to adaptive learning. As such, I have experience as a live teacher, an on-line teacher, and a one-on-one tutor, and this breadth of pedagogical backgrounds has given me a great deal of versatility.
In terms of test numbers, I scored a 2370 on the SAT, a 1570 on the GRE, and a 770 on the GMAT (all 99th percentile scores). I have always had a fondness for puzzles and tests, and I genuinely enjoy the feeling of imparting knowledge onto others. It gives me great satisfaction to know that I can put my skills to use in helping students achieve their goals.
I recently earned my Masters in Journalism from NYU with a concentration in Cultural Reporting and Criticism, and I write film reviews and blog entries for various webzines. I also play tennis competitively, and I have completed a half-marathon and several triathlons while fundraising for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
