About Me
I am an elementary teacher who is passionate about learning. I received my
Bachelors in Elementary Education and my Masters in Reading. In July, 2011, I
taught down in Honduras at a bilingual summer camp. I'm also a youth leader at
my church.
In my 6 years of being in schools my rapport with my co-workers and
students has been top notch. I feel that if a student can have that
relationship with you where they are comfortable talking to you about school
and catching up on life, they are more willing to let learning take place. Not
only will they be learning but they will have fun doing it.
My youth have told me how "cool" it has been to have me just
sit and talk with them and be one of them. My 4th graders from this past school
year were always hanging around me sharing what was going on in and out of
school. I created that comfortability with them because I know they need it but
I sincerely wanted to get to know them. One teacher even commented that I was
like a mother duck because all of my students followed me around or were with
me like little ducklings.
I feel that this rapport is not always obtainable at school, especially
if there are 24+ students in a class. Through tutoring and one-on-one time, the
learning that is hard at times in school will be a much more obtainable goal!
