About Me
Do you need quality, affordable tutoring from an experienced teacher/tutor? The good news is that this site gives you an opportunity to choose among many superb tutors with diverse educational backgrounds, experiences, and specialties. Obviously, I'd like you to hire me as your tutor. But before you even consider doing that, I would like you to check out the profiles of all the other tutors in San Gabriel Valley. Consider this your first assignment (in advance). I know it takes some time and effort, but choosing the right tutor for you is very important, so you should look at all the choices before making a decision.
My specialties are Language Arts, Social Studies, and History, but I can also tutor in Basic Math and Science. I'm especially good at helping students improve their reading comprehension and creative writing. I have excellent rapport with students of all ages and I definitely know how to motivate effectively. In South Korea, I taught English as a Second Language (ESL) for one year, and I also worked with at-risk high school students in El Monte for 10 years. I hold a current California Professional Clear Single Subject Teaching Credential.
I also have an 11-year old son in the El Monte City School District and his excellent report cards/progress reports are the best evidence of my success as a teacher/tutor!
When not working with students, my favorite thing is travel to unusual and exciting locations. I studied in Germany and explored Europe my junior year in college, and I've been to Southeast Asia 30 times in recent years. In the 1990s, I searched for buried and sunken treasure in the Philippines, where I nearly died from malaria, hung out with Imelda Marcos, and got involved in the hunt for an international fugitive. My story was later featured in the Los Angeles Times and on Dateline NBC.
Anyway, I hope to hear from you. If not, I hope you have a great experience this summer with whoever you choose as your tutor...
