About Me
A Columbia Univ. Grad Who Has Excellent English AND Math Skills!!!
Hi, my name is Lalita. I am an Ivy League graduate and university professor that wants to help you and your kids succeed! Unlike most English majors, I got an A in AP Calculus, while attending Cleveland Humanities Magnet HS; this exhibits my unique ability to both understand math and explain it to you effectively.
In addition to experience as a professor, I also enjoy working with children--helping them understand and complete their homework assignments so that their parents can rest after a long day of work.
I earned my MA from Columbia University in English and Comparative Literature in 2005. Before that, I received my BA in 2002 from UCLA with major in American Literature and Culture and 2 minors in Comparative Literature and Asian American Studies. I have been a college professor in the Asian American Studies and English Departments at Cal State University Northridge (CSUN) for 4 years. I have a passion for teaching/tutoring and I see myself as a lifelong learner.
Also, I love learning languages and have studied Thai (which I also teach), French, Italian, Mandarin Chinese, German, and American Sign Language. I have certificates in: Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL)(2009) from TEFL Paris; Le Cours de Langue et Civilisation Francaise de la Sorbonne (2004) from The University of Paris IV; and The Advanced Study of Thai (AST)(2001) from Chiang Mai University.
My hobbies include reading, watching smart and funny TV/movies, studying languages and social/literary theory, solving logic-based puzzles, and playing trivia games.
In addition, I have also been a literacy tutor for the Los Angeles Public Library for over 2 years and I have been teaching ESL and Thai language for over 7 years.
