HOW DO YOU TEACH: My students are relieved when they discover that math can be fun when they persevere. Every math problem is made up of small pieces of information. My students learn how to break down and de-code problems. I lead them through problem solving in mini steps, step-by-step, so they can successfully do the problem on their own. I help with homework, but the best use of our time together is to review the prior lessons, answer difficult homework questions, and preview the upcoming new material.
My style is gentle, yet thorough. We build on your strengths to increase confidence. You are allowed to ask all the questions you are afraid to ask your teacher, as well as more explanation for concepts that are still vague. When I discover a misunderstanding or a gap in your knowledge, we pause for more explanation so that you don't have to rely on trying to memorize the steps in a problem. If you have any unproductive habits, my counseling background helps me identify them and then help you to reverse them. If you need support, I train you how to take a test and how to manage your time.
WHAT ARE YOUR CREDENTIALS: As a graduate from UCLA in math, I have three types of credentials. You may verify my credentials online at the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. I have passed a background check and am fingerprinted in several districts.
WHOM DO YOU TUTOR: I tutor a wide range of clients--adults, re-entry students, teens and children. I am told my style puts students at ease. I am especially effective with middle school students and other students who want to build confidence. (BTW: Did you know:, my first student was the younger brother of a popular actor on a #1 TV show star -- hmm, which TV show? :-) )
HOW OFTEN WILL I NEED TUTORING: After your initial session, I will give you my recommendations. I will identify your strengths and areas of concern and then tailor a plan for remediation. You can see me once twice or more often per week for the balance of the semester, or for just a few sessions until you get caught up.
WHAT IS YOUR FEE: My fee is $60 which is based on my preparation, credentials, qualifications and experience.
WHERE DO YOU TUTOR: Tutoring takes place at your home, at the local public library, or at public coffee shops. Parents are required to be at home for in-home tutoring. For a discount, students come to my Emeryville location.
DO YOU OFFER A DISCOUNT: Yes. If you drive to the Emeryville, the fee is reduced to $ 45.
DO YOU WORK WITH MATH PHOBIA: If math makes you nervous, or you are so frustrated you can't think straight anymore, my professional counseling and coaching background combine to soothe your nerves. We'll create individual strategies so you can perform your best.
HOW DO I GET IN TOUCH WITH YOU Contact me through Tutorspree so I can answer the rest of your questions and set up your initial appointment. You only commit to one appointment so you can be an informed consumer.
Best wishes,
Tralee J.
P.S. FUTURE TEACHERS: Are you studying to be a teacher? You need to pass the CBEST, and I can help you set your study schedule, and refresh you math memory. I have helped many teachers pass. I want future teachers to be able to follow their calling, and you must pass this test to do so. Therefore, I offer a discount to prospective teachers.

Rita C said ... August 18th 2011I am a math moron, always have been. Tralee tutored me in math for several months while I prepared for the GRE (Graduate Record Exam) to get into a masters program. Tralee made mathematics so clear and understandable, that even I got it! I passed the exam!
