About Me
Hello!
My name is Alex and I am currently on leave from the Ph.D. program in Economics at Stanford. I graduated from Williams College in 2007 with majors in Physics, Mathematics, and Economics. I now write and edit free digital textbooks for a non-profit startup.
In the past three years, I have worked as a teacher at an individualized high school, as a private tutor, and at several local tutoring centers; I have consistently received excellent reviews. I have over 2,500 hours of experience, with all of my listed subjects well represented -- including college application advice and essay editing.
These factors allow me to provide a consistent, competent, and professional service at a reasonable rate (quantity discounts and packages [SAT,etc] available). I have helped students behind in class catch-up to their peers and prepared math and physics contest champions; my sincere wish is simply to help kids learn.
My academic credentials are more than adequate -- nearly all 800's and 5's, National Science and Physics awards, graduation honors, named fellowships at Williams and Stanford, and others -- but it is my experience that sets me apart from other tutors.
Not only have I taught many of the classes I tutor for, I have written and edited extensive textbook content for them. I am familiar with diversity in both teaching (tutoring students in the same class from different schools) and learning (creating and implementing individualized curriculums in one on one classes). I tailor my teaching to the student, but in a manner that prizes substance over fluff.
