About Me
Abe is simultaneously completing his Bachelors in Classics and
Comparative Literature and a Masters in Classics at NYU. Abe is also
one of NYU's Student Ambassadors, where he leads guided tours to
prospective students at NYU and assists with the orchestration of
admission recruitment events.
Abe is active within the Jewish community at NYU, serving as the
President of NYU's Hillel this past year. As President, he partnered
with numerous student clubs and community organizations to develop
programming and collaborate on communal projects.
Ever since Abe learned how to read torah, or layn, for his
bar mitzvah, he has not stopped. He reads in his local synagogue during
the High Holidays and continues to read at NYU. Before entering
college, Abe spent a gap year studying at Yeshivat Maale Gilboa, an
Israeli religious institution located in northern Israel. There he
focused on Hebrew language and Judaic studies, immersing himself in
Bible, Talmud, and Law as well as Jewish philosophy and history. Abe is
proficient in both Modern & Biblical Hebrew and has studied a wide
range of Hebrew/Judaic texts. This past year, he piloted a 9th
grade class on Current Events in Israel at the Town & Village
Synagogue in New York City and also privately tutored Bar and Bat
Mitzvah students.
While school is not in session, Abe has participated in various
alternative break programs, including a Jewish spirituality retreat,
studying at Yeshivat Hadar a Jewish egalitarian institution, traveling
to China with NYU's Scholars Program, working on an organic farm
through the Jewish Farm School, and even volunteering within the Jewish
community of Almaty, Kazakhstan.
