About Me

I am currently a senior Mathematics major at the Courant Institute of Mathematics at New York University. I transferred to NYU from Carnegie Mellon University's Computational Finance program, where I earned a 3.9 GPA in advanced mathematics and finance courses.

Six years ago, I got my start in tutoring by helping my peers prepare for math exams and the SAT. I quickly realized that I had a talent for teaching and communicating ideas to others, so I began tutoring professionally. In the past few years, I have helped countless students in a variety of subjects.

In 2008, I spent the summer in Seoul, South Korea, where I was hired as a private tutor and teacher at an elite private academy. I taught SAT & ACT prep, along with an ESL course. I focused on teaching my students how to think like the test makers and gave them test-taking strategies to help them maximize their scores. Over the course of nine weeks, my students' SAT scores increased between 250-500 points.

Personal Scores
SAT I: 2340
-Math: 800

SAT II (subject tests)
-Math Level 2: 800
-Physics: 760
-Chemistry: 740

AP Exams
-Calculus BC: 5
-Calculus AB: 5
-Statistics: 5

I was a distinguished math scholar in my high school, receiving both the underclassman and senior math awards in consecutive years. In addition, I set the record (twice) for the highest score in my school's history on the AIME (American Invitational Mathematics Examination). I finished my school's math curriculum in 10th grade, and so for the remaining two years of high school I took advanced undergraduate and graduate level math courses at Columbia University. I also spent the summer after my junior year doing intensive mathematics research funded by the NSF with college students from the nation's top schools and published my research in a mathematics journal.

The reason I've found great success as a tutor is because I know how to explain difficult concepts to struggling students. In math, my deep understanding of the field allows me to shed new light on topics and show students how to tackle problems in a way they can comprehend. In other areas, my long and varied teaching experience and familiarity with standardized tests enables me to design a unique approach specifically suited to each student's individual strengths and weaknesses.

My students enjoy working with me because I think of creative ways to explain difficult concepts, keep tutoring sessions fun and stress-free, and always go the extra mile to make sure all of my students' needs are met.

I have helped students of all ages, from elementary school to graduate school level.
