About Me

Hi, my name is David and I'm excited to work with you to meet your educational goals in a variety of subjects from math and science, to social studies, english and writing.
I love learning and I love to share it with students but I also think getting improved results is important so I know when and how to teach strategically. I believe in building a strong rapport with students by discovering your interests and incorporating them into lessons. I think that the more personal a tutoring session can be, the better.
I have extensive teaching experience. I have taught at two gifted youth programs: Johns Hopkins University's Center for Talented Youth (CTY) and Duke University's Talent Identification Program (TIP) so I know how to get the best out of middle and high school aged students.
I have also taught many classes while pursuing my graduate degrees at both Brown and Virginia Tech, primarily introductory classes in moral and political philosophy to college underclassmen.
My personal educational background is quite broad. I began my American college career as a math major at Princeton University after spending a year studying mathematics at Imperial College, London--an MIT type institution--in the UK. I achieved perfect scores on my A-levels--UK college entrance exams--in mathematics, further mathematics, physics and chemistry and a perfect score on my SAT. I also spent some time as a high schooler studying mathematics at Cambridge University. I know many people find math and science challenging and sometimes boring but I have a lot of experience in making it fun and exciting!
I'm very comfortable tutoring any topic in mathematics, physics or chemistry. Please contact me if you'd like to work with me to improve your performance in these areas.
I finished my degree at Princeton in 2006 majoring in Politics specialising in Political Theory and American Politics so I'm very well equipped to tutor social studies and history along with related fields. I also took many classes in English at college so I can work with students in that area too.
After completing my undergraduate studies, I obtained a Masters degree in philosophy from Virginia Tech in 2009 and since then have been working on my PhD in philosophy at Brown University here in Providence, RI. If you have an interest in philosophy (either inside or outside of the classroom) or anything related to it (like debate for example), I'd also be happy to work with you on this. Philosophy teaches clear and concise thinking and writing so I can provide guidance on writing as well as argumentation.
My own test scores are as follows:
GRE: Math - 790, 92nd percentile, Verbal - 660, 94th percentile, Writing - 6.0, 97th percentile
SAT: Math - 800, 99th percentile, Verbal - 800, 99th percentile--Perfect 1600 Score
SAT II: Math IC - 800, 99th percentile, Math IIC - 800, 91st percentile, Physics - 780, 90th percentile
A-levels, UK college entrance exams - Mathematics - A, Further Mathematics - A, Physics - A, Chemistry - A--Perfect Scores
Please contact me so we can develop a plan for you to meet your educational goals. I look forward to getting to know you. I'd be happy to send my resume if requested.

I have been working with David for almost 5 months now. He has been a huge help. He is clear with his explanations, and he adapts to the learning style of his student. He is patient and I would highly recommend him. As a plus, he is flexible with scheduling. A+
