About Me
Hello! I am a patient, knowledgeable, down-to-earth tutor available to help with physics, math, chemistry, and astronomy. I've tutored for approximately 10 years...and I've loved every hour of it. I've also gained some great classroom experience by spending 6 years teaching physics at the New College of California, one school year assisting high school math teachers in Oakland Public Schools, a semester as a teaching assistant for an Intro to Astronomy class at UC Berkeley Extension, and, most recently, teaching an Algebra 2 class in San Francisco City College's College for Teens program. I love helping people better understand challenging material. The main tool I use in teaching is the same thing that got me through college. It is this: The way the physical world works in all of its intricacies and grandeur is just amazing. And nothing helps a person more than to get them excited about the subject at hand. I consider my primary job is to light the fire of interest and excitement. Once that fire is lit, my job is to dive in with the student and find the challenges and sticking points - and to, one by one, help them overcome them. With practice, the student becomes not just more knowledgeable of the subject hand - but an all-around better learner whose thirst for knowledge and information becomes harder and harder to quell.
