MY CREDENTIALS: I'm a recent graduate of MIT, where I earned dual B.S. degrees in pure math and literature. I've also completed more than a semester of coursework at Harvard in English, philosophy, and history. I've earned 99th percentile scores on all parts of the SAT and GRE, including 800s on SAT and GRE math and SAT writing. I was a National Merit Scholar and a National AP Scholar. I've worked in many scientific labs, from those in biomedical engineering to cognitive neuroscience, but will soon be returning to school for a Ph.D. in English and intellectual history.
MY EXPERIENCE: I have more than 10 years of teaching, tutoring, and mentoring experience -- 5 in the Boston metro area alone -- and I currently teach math and English at a college transition program in downtown Boston. I've worked with students of all ages, backgrounds, and ability levels from those in middle and high school to Harvard undergraduates and adults in their forties.

I've worked with students of all ages, backgrounds, and ability levels from those in middle and high school to Harvard undergraduates and adults in their forties.
WHAT I TUTOR: math at all levels, both high school and college (Algebra I and II, geometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus, calculus, AP Calculus AB and BC, multi-variable calculus, statistics, AP Statistics, linear algebra, differential equations); science (physics, AP Physics B and C, SAT II Physics, biology, AP Biology, SAT II Biology M); test prep (all sections of the SAT, ACT, GRE, and GMAT).
MY APPROACH: My overarching goal in all the subjects I tutor is to help my students learn how to think - not simply solve problems. Problem-solving is important, of course, and I train my students to do it well and provide them with insider test-taking strategies. It's impossible to achieve a very high score without real understanding, which consists instead in the ability to make and explain abstract connections and see a bigger picture. To help my students develop deep confidence in and true mastery of a subject, I focus on sharpening their abilities to communicate precisely and to think rigorously.
My style, as a result, is relaxed, fun, and very conversational. I ask my students pointed questions that force them to think creatively on their own about a problem before they attempt to write down a solution or follow a rule, strategy, or algorithm they do not really understand. By requiring my students to talk about a subject -- to put what they are thinking into words, to communicate back to me what they think they are doing when they try to solve a problem, in short, to sharpen their ability to explain -- they not only refine their problem-solving skills and learn to ace exams but also develop deep and lasting understanding.
IN SHORT: If you're serious about really mastering a subject, I'm the tutor for you!
