About Me

I am a UCF graduate who recently moved to the MD and DC area. I am currently working full-time at a non-profit, but I miss teaching so much I decided to tutor. I have developed and taught 12 courses for English Composition/Women's Studies and loved every minute of it. I have taught students how to engage in the process of invention, critical reading, drafting, revision, editing, primary/secondary research, and women's history in the context of social theory. While I have mostly worked with college students (some who were still in high school), I worked with middle school students for three years through a mentoring program and am confident I could transfer what I learned there into tutoring. My teaching style has always focused on making English and Social Theory accessible to my students by making it fun with connections to popular culture. For example, I always taught my students the tenets of figurative language by setting up an game with music lyrics. I love teaching and pride myself on helping my students enjoy the growth and feelings of agency and confidence that come from learning. I am also a native Spanish speaker who would love to give teaching Spanish a try if someone is willing!
