History

Akron, Ohio was incorporated in 1836 after the joining of North and South cities. In the early 1900s, Akron became the fastest growing city in the country, growing over 200% in a single year. The city soon found itself labeled the 'Rubber Capital of the World' after companies such as Goodyear took root. Akron has a rich cultural history as well. It's home to E.J. Akron has a very ambitious education system. The Akron Public School district is comprised of 34 elementary schools, 10 middle schools, and seven high schools.
