History

The town so nice, it incorporated twice, Brownsville is the southernmost city in the state of Texas. Once a smuggling point between the Mexican and the Confederacy, Brownsville is now a vital shipping port in the region. In 2001 Brownsville was declared an All-American city. On December 25, 2004 Brownsville saw its first-ever white Christmas and first snow fall in 109 years. The city has a well-established cultural history that includes both Southwestern Americana and Mexican arts. There are museums, performance halls, and many festivals. Brownsville is also home to a National Weather Service branch as well as many medical facilities.
