Cambridge Overview

Cambridge was founded in 1630 by puritans from the Massachusetts Bay Colony. The city has grown into one of America's major academic and cultural centers, boasting a population of 105,162. It has preserved many of its historical buildings, including some dating from the 17th century. Popular sights include MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), Harvard University and Longfellow National Historic Site, former home of poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and the headquarters of General George Washington during the Revolutionary War.
