Chicago Overview

Chicago was incorporated in 1833 as a town after decades of being inhabited primarily by the Native American tribe known as the Potawatomi. The name Chicago is derived from a French translation of the Native American word shikaakwa or "wild onion." Today Chicago is the third most populated city in the United States, behind New York City and Los Angeles and is known as one of the world's top global financial centers.
