History of Fairfield

Fairfield, California was first settled by American Indians six thousand years ago, making it one of the oldest settled areas in California. The first Europeans arrived in the early 19th century and began farming. The City of Fairfield was incorporated in 1903. In 1942 the city benefited from a significant economic boost when the Air Force built a major base nearby. Tourism is the area's most significant industry, taking advantage of the abundant natural resources and beautiful landscapes of this part of the Bay Area
