History

In 1884, Alex Silva and a group of Hispanics settle the land and soon the Arizona Canal and Sahuaro Ranch are erected. By 1892, Glendale has its first residential area and newspaper Ð the Arizona Weekly Gazette. Three years later, the Santa Fe Railroad Depot, Glendale Grammar School, and library are all constructed. The residents of Glendale first use the telephone in the early 1900's. By 1930, Glendale is one of the nation's top produce shippers. With the 1940's, it becomes a place for pilot training for WWII when Air School, Luke Air Force Base, and Thunderbird Airfield were created. And with the passing years, Glendale has continued to grow so, as of the 2010 census, there are 226,721 citizens (29% of them school-aged), thus there is a need for people to fill teaching jobs and tutoring jobs.
