History

Henderson is a city built on perseverance and strong-will. It was during the years prior to WWII that this city came to be, coinciding with when the Basic Magnesium Plant was built. This factory supplied magnesium for weapons and airplane parts. But, in 1947, the manufacturing of these products was no longer needed and most of the employees of the plant moved, which caused school enrollment to drop considerably. Henderson was even up for sale as war surplus property!

However, the city recovered after Nevada bought the Basic Magnesium Plant. Soon, the city grew from 13 square miles to 103 square miles, making it Nevada's second largest city. With time came malls, 'Shakespeare in the Park,' theaters, restaurants, and casinos and even more growth. As of the 2010 census, there are 257,729 citizens within Henderson.
