History

People have lived in Lubbock since 1540, while Coronado searched for the 'City of Gold'. The area was split into 2 towns until 1890. 'Old Lubbock' and 'Monterey' joined and made a new town of 50 people. However, it was only in 1909 that Lubbock was an official city. In this year, the first trains came through the area.

Although there were only 50 people in 1890, the population grew into the 30,000's by 1923. In fact, 30,000 citizens established Texas Technical College. Lubbock is a thriving farming area as well as a major producer of cotton. As of today, 2-3 million bales of cotton are produced annually. This area has 229,573 citizens as of 2010, which means there will probably be a teaching job or tutoring job for you.
