The history of Mesa dates back two thousand years to the Hohokam Indians, and in 1917 they purchased their own utilities company, being one of the few cities to own their own utilities in Arizona. This enabled the city to purchase capital expenditures without having to rely on bonds. The climate is beautiful with a mild winter, which in turn attracts many people each year. Mesa is the third largest city in Arizona.
