History

Moreno Valley is still a relatively young city inside the 'Inland Empire' area of Southern California. Incorporated in 1984, the city has seen its ups and downs as the California economy fluxed, but still maintains a large suburban style population of over 193,000 people. The city was once a racing giant with the Riverside International Raceway, a favorite with Indycar, NASCAR, and the NHRA, but closed in 1989. It has since been transformed into an economic powerhouse, attracting retail, commercial, and industrial businesses to the area. Moreno Valley also has a budding arts community, spearheaded by the Moreno Valley Arts Council, which holds tours, festivals, and international juried art shows year round.

Moreno Valley's educational needs are met by two school districts, the Moreno Unified School District and the Val Verde Unified School District, with a combined total of just over 48,000 students.
