Overview of Murrieta

Murrieta, California is a booming commuter city in Southwest Riverside County. Originally, the city was founded on the land of two ranches, Rancho Pauba and Rancho Temecula. Home to over 100,000 sheep for many years, the city didn't begin to expand until the railway built a depot there. With the discovery of hot springs in the area, it became a major tourist spot. When the railway line closed in 1935, the city underwent an economic downturn which continued until the arrival of Interstate 15 in the late 1970s. Since then the city has undergone a renaissance as a commuter town for San Diego.
