History

Plano was founded in the 1840's when people from Tennessee and Kentucky migrated here. Native American attacks halted most attempts to settle the land. The city took off when a sawmill, gristmill, a store, and gin were built, the settlement became stronger and by 1850, there was a doctor and post office.

There was much growth of Plano and schools were built, cattle raised, and farms constructed. By 1872, the Houston and Texas Railroad came through the area. But, the city's prosperity was halted when a fire destroyed the business district. However, they rebuilt and buy the 1880's, Plano became a hub of trading items. In the 20th and 21st century, Plano has benefited from the growth of Dallas and other surrounding areas, although the strength and good-natured attitude, business moguls have moved there. Now, as of 2010, there were 259,841 citizens in Plano.
