History

Rancho Cucamonga is a suburban city located about 39 miles east of Los Angeles in San Bernardino County. The city was incorporated in 1977. The area is a major center for the logistics industry and is supported by a manufacturing base. The Victoria Gardens Lifestyle Center is the heart of the area's entertainment and culture, featuring shopping, dining, a theatre, and a library. A twelve screen AMC movie theatre is also located in the center. The grounds are thoughtfully landscaped and the architecture designed with an urban-town sensibility. The city has two public libraries. The area has an extensive hiking trails, bike trails, a park system, and Equestrian Center. The city of Rancho Cucamonga offers an extensive recreation program for adults and youths, and the Epicenter Sports Complex, and a minor league ballpark with a breathtaking view of the mountains.

The area's top three employers are all educational institutions. Upland Christian Academy recently added a high school to the area. The area is home to Chaffey College, California's first community college, and the area's number one employer. There are numerous satellite campuses, including the University of Phoenix, and an automotive trade school. Teaching jobs may also be located in the outlying areas.
