History

The city of Spokane was settled in 1871 and officially incorporated as a city in 1881. The city's name is drawn from the Native American tribe of the same name, which means "Children of the Sun" in Salish. With a population of over 208,000 residents, Spokane is the second largest city Washington. Historically known as timber country, Spokane has diversified its economy and is home to genetics, hospitality, and financial leaders in addition to a large number of wineries and microbreweries.
