History

Tulsa was founded in 1833. However, the city stayed small until the 20th century. With the discovery of oil in 1901, Tulsa went from a small town to a booming city. This find drew people from all around and buildings were quickly built. By the 1920s, the population had grown to over70,000. It grew when more oil was discovered in the 1930s.

This city's prosperity grew even more when aviation came to town. The Spartan School of Aeronautics was built, and in 1941, Douglas Aircraft Co. constructed a plant to build bombers.

The development of Tulsa didn't falter until the 1980s. During this time, there was an oil bust. However, this city has looked towards new technologies and natural gas to regain the prosperity Tulsa had. As of the 2010 census, there were 391,906 citizens.
